FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ORDERS AND DELIVERIES
When will I receive my order?
We roast and dispatch all orders on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. All orders are posted using Royal Mail Tracked 48 (two working days). This means if you order after midday on a Thursday, your order will be roasted and dispatched on the following Tuesday, and will be delivered two working days later e.g Thursday.
Our dispatch days will increase as we get busier and we will aim to offer more speedy delivery in time.
There is something wrong with my order, what should I do?
Please email hello@lowencoffee.co.uk if you are missing items, or received the wrong items.
Do you offer returns?
As coffee is a perishable item, it can’t be resold so unfortunately we can’t accept returns for a refund. But if you are unhappy with your order, please contact us and we will do everything we can to rectify it.
ROASTING AND BREWING
How do you roast your coffee?
We roast small batches on a vintage Probat roaster. Each coffee has it’s own roast profile that has been meticulously refined to bring the best out of each coffee.
Which range is right for me?
Each range has a different roast level to suit not only the coffee, but also your preferences.
MAGPIE is medium dark and is our darkest roast. It is best suited brewed as an espresso, but can also be brewed in a cafetière if you like your brews bold and chocolatey. It pairs perfectly with milk. For this range, we use past crop coffee as we are bringing out flavour notes that are still present in slighter older (but still good) coffee beans. It’s a seasonal coffee that will change origins throughout the year, but will always maintain the same roast and flavour profile.
STARLING is our ‘house’ coffee. It’s medium roasted, which means it works well for both espresso and filter brewing methods and is the most versatile of the three ranges. If you are not sure where to start, this is the one for you. Like MAGPIE, this range also changes with the seasons.
GOLDFINCH is to showcase smaller lots that are roasted lighter. These coffees really shine with filter brewing methods and are more complex - whether it’s a delicate floral washed coffee, or a super fruity and boozy anaerobic. We aim to source the best that each coffee-growing country has to offer. Perfect for the true coffee aficionado.
How do I brew the coffee?
We will be releasing brew recipes very soon! In the mean time, we would recommend watching some videos online from James Hoffman, an expert in all types of home brewing methods.
Can I buy pre-ground coffee?
At the moment, we only offer whole bean. In the future, we will be able to offer pre-ground coffee. However, we strongly recommend investing in a grinder and grinding fresh before each brew. Once ground, coffee goes stale surprisingly quickly (despite our packaging being completely airtight) and the flavour compounds deteriorate a lot faster than whole beans. We will be releasing a range of grinders to suit a range of budgets very soon so stay tuned.
GENERAL QUESTIONS
Can I buy coffee directly from the roastery?
We are not open to the public at the moment but hopefully we can introduce a click and collect service soon to save local customers on postage. Follow our instagram to find out where you can pick up a bag from a local retailer.
Where does your coffee come from?
We source our coffee from various importers who work closely with producers. The supply chain in coffee can often be long and elusive. The importers we buy from provide complete transparency from farm to cup, and ensure that producers are paid above the market rate, and at the very least a living wage relative to their country.
